Email Yourself Your Plans

The internet is a wonderful resource for planner tools. I found this site as the most helpful one. You know how you have all the plans for the month but during the hectic days that follow, you forget about them? This tool will help you mail yourself a reminder of an event. They don’t store your email and there’s a nice calendar for planning ahead.

You don’t need to sign up. It’s really just a free tool for busy people like us. One can even decide how much time before the scheduled event  one gets the mail. Isn’t it freaky when you suddenly receive mail from someone named “Wake Up Sleepy Head” and realize that it’s just you mailing yourself your to-do list?

You remind you. Fun! Try it out!

Happy Pregnancy Party

My sister asked me to brainstorm ideas for a happy pregnancy party and my initial reaction was “what?”. It turns out that she wanted something to celebrate the discovery of her friend’s pregnancy, the two-lines on the pregnancy test strip.

bxp250624.jpgI have several ideas for a small get-together with friends and relatives attending.
The food includes simple chicken dishes. They can order in from a regular fried chicken place or they can fry their own, following authentic restaurant recipes from cookbooks.

The idea is for the guests to gush over the new discovery and reassure the new mom-to-be that her new emotions and the changes in her body are things that all women go through when celebrating the miracle of pregnancy. Changes in one’s body are scary, but her friends are there to convince her that she will still look awesome even in prebaby clothes.

Guests can bring accessories or hand-me-down clothes from previous pregnancies as one necessary expense among pregnant women is clothes that fit. Most preggy dresses are in pastels. Another nice gift to give the mom-to-be would be bags to go with new mommy outfits. They should be big to accommodate small snacks for when she’s feeling the munchies, and trendy enough to show the world that pregnant women can also be fashionable.

Their relatives and friends can help them pick the best unisex design to adorn the nursery. They still don’t know what the baby’s gender will be, but they cannot wait until the last minute to furnish the room.

Planning the giveaways for this party is tricky, and nice thank you cards and ‘future godparent’ cards are standard.

Design Your Own Giveaway Basket

yw9vex.jpg

One of the most common party planner dilemma is what to give away to guests at certain parties that don’t really have a set theme. Grandma’s birthday or Congratulations parties don’t really fit in the usual mainstream giveaway categories. It’s usually thank you cards and food that are given away.

Here’s an idea. How about if the guests are provided with materials to decorate ther very own giveaway? A rattan basket is easy enough to acquire, and art materials are readily available at craft stores. These can be used as containers for the food and the other things that the party owner wants to give away.

There can even be mini-competitions for families to participate in. Suggestions for contest categories include Most Colorful, Most Imaginative and Best Overall Design. Kids and adults can pitch in and everyone will have a great time making their custom baskets or trays.

Some occasions call for special basket and tray shapes (hearts for Valentines and stars for Christmas), but for other occasions, any nice woven basket will do. A party can even be created around the activity itself. A “basket-design party” sounds good even to the more hesitant party goers. The lure of competition and prizes will have them coming over, armed with ideas from design magazines.
