Family Valentines Party: Celebrating the Love Day Together
Valentine’s Day is not just for couples, it’s for everyone. Contrary to the notion of Valentine’s day being a “couples’ event” only, it’s the season for celebrating love, including the sublime kind that families share.
Here are some ideas on how to celebrate Valentine’s day as a family. Note that this party is meant for breakfast, before everyone goes out of the house (Valentines day is not a holiday in most countries!).
1. Valentines Surprise!
Like on Christmas, you can give a Valentine’s Day gift for each of the family members. Let this be the big surprise that awaits them on the living room or the breakfast table when they come down to prepare for the day ahead. Make small heart shaped cartons or pink-colored gift boxes, and put each gift inside one.
2. Valentines cookies
Bake cookies, but use heart-shaped cupcake pans to remind each one of the party theme. Alternatively, you can use fortune cookies to convey your message of love. Simply add a snippet of your favorite love quote and place the piece of paper inside the fortune cookie. Dip the cookie in strawberry colored candy coating to maintain the Valentine theme.
3. Valentines Mailbox
Place small boxes with everyone’s names on them and let each one write a short note or post for that family member. Letter sending can be done anonymously (but I know for sure some people would be watching the mailboxes like guard dogs!). If you want, the kids can take charge of the mailbox creation to exercise their creativity.
4. Dress Up Those Doorknobs!
Polish each doorknob inside the house to perfection! You can wrap a red ribbon around every doorknob inside the house to remind each other of Valentines. This way, no one will ever feel that the day is ordinary. These red ribbons will also remind each family member of the love they have for each other. If you have doorknobs that look like those on the door hardware, better!. These sexy doorknobs need no polishing, so you can simply dress them up.
Here’s to a sentimental and meaningful Valentine’s!
