Summer Projects: Outdoor Bazaars and Community Trade Shows
Someone asked me this question recently: If you owned a beautiful piece of land that could easily sell as commercial real estate but you don’t have buyers yet, what can you do to make it profitable over the summer?
This question is interesting in so many ways. First of all, the owner is obviously on the fence about selling. Secondly, the owner needs cash immediately. If you have a piece of land that nobody wants for now, but you don’t want to waste the great summertime without at least trying to make a profit off your real estate, what can you do?
Invite your community to set up a bazaar.
Contact the biggest, baddest event coordinator you know and talk about setting up a small business for the summer. You can still sell the land afterward (but if the affair is so successful, why not just keep it?) but you have a chance of taking advantage of all the sun and fun that summer brings.
Invite the local businesses to advertise while you brainstorm the spectacle that will draw people in. It can be an outdoor concert or an art festival. Whatever it is, make sure it’s going to attract the people who really don’t need much prodding to go out during the summer season.
