How to Plan a Get-Well-Soon Party

Categories: Theme Parties

When you throw a get well soon party for a friend or a family member who just got out of the hospital, or who could still be in the hospital, you must consider a few things.

1. Steer clear of the food he or she cannot eat.

Be sensitive and don’t offer sweets and carbo-loaded food as the ONLY food available in your party if the patient is a diabetic. If you really care about the person, you must not make him or her feel depressed or sad that he or she can no longer eat those things.

2.Theme Colors

There are certain colors that make people feel more pain than usual. One such color is yellow. Have you ever wondered why no dentist’s clinic is decorated in pure yellow? People who see this color feel happier if they’re already happy, but the opposite could happen if the person is in pain. Stick to pastel shades of green, blue or pink.

3. A Card

Even in this digital age, people have not forgotten the power of the written greeting. Just by signing a card, you can tell the other person you care. One good practice is to let everyone sign the card so that the sick person can see who visited or who sent his or her well wishes.

4. If the person is sick with a terminal disease like mesothelioma, don’t make the other feel bad by talking about the disease.

Tribute speeches are for the dying. If the patient is fighting to stay alive, his spirit is very much alive even if his body is suffering. Don’t kill the spirit by talking about the person’s doom. Act normal and don’t treat him or her special. Sick people feel condescending attitudes and pity more acutely than those who are healthy.
