When June Brides Buy Gowns Three Sizes Smaller
It’s brides season again and we’re getting busy with a lot of things here at MPA. First, if you have clients who are planning on joining the June bridal rush, you can make things a lot easier and stress-free by reminding them what they need to do now (in preparation for the wedding day).
Sure they might have planned a year ahead, but you won’t believe what kind of setbacks you will encounter when planning a big affair (i.e. a 150-300 guest wedding). First things first, make sure the favors are counted and delivered. Secondly, make sure your caterers, decorators and ushers all know the schedule. And, thirdly, make sure all the gowns fit.
This last bit is the most challenging among the issues I presented. For one, gowns are the most difficult to get at the last minute. Unless you have a bridal gowns rentals side-business, you don’t know for sure if there’s a gown available for your client and her entourage. In some places, the bride isn’t allowed to fit the gown before the wedding day (because of some obscure superstition), so you have to prepare a fail-proof back-up plan just in case the bridal gown turns out to be three sizes too small.
So what do you do when this happens? Since it’s too late to scold the bride for not going on a diet, availing of an effective weight loss pill or coming up with a game plan for her gown fitting, it’s time for plan B.
Have a just-in-case reservation for a gown that you KNOW will fit your client in a nearby bridal shop. If the owner is your friend, you might not even need to pay a small reservation fee. It’s really up to you to take note of the behavior and body size of your client. If she’s not the type who will reign in her eating habits for the wedding, then you can ask her to re-measure every few weeks before the wedding. Come up with an excuse to avoid insulting anyone, but make sure you check.
