How to Throw a Party Like a Pro

The All-in-One Party Planner: Caterer, Entertainer, Function Hall Provider

Categories: The Business Side of Things

Here’s the dream business that every events planner aims for… to be the All-in-One party planner that sweeps all the profits in without leaking a single dime by subcontracting work!

How would you like to take care of all the aspects of a party… from the invitations, to the costumes/bridal gowns rentals, to the food and the entertainment, and of course, the function hall where the party will be held. You won’t be subcontracting work, so you get all the profits. You don’t have to rely on others’ skills to get a party done right (just the way you and the client want it). It’s all on you… Now can you handle that? Or, perhaps the more appropriate question is…

Is this even possible?

Can someone really be the ‘perfect’ party provider? It will take time, but with any luck, you may be one of the Chosen few who can do this. First of all, you must have a sizable income as a ‘normal’ party planner so that you will have enough cash to invest on all the necessary aspects of being an all-in-one party provider.

First, you must have the storage space to keep all the equipment when not in use. This means a cool dry place for chairs and tables, linen, silverware, plates, chafing dishes, entertainment props and special cooking utensils (e.g. chopsticks for authentic Chinese style on-site cooking, grill for luau parties etc.). This is the same for your other entertainment gadgets like players and speakers for piped in music. In this case, you might also need a special wireless alarm to protect your investment from burglars.

Secondly, you must own a piece of land where you can set up your function hall and multi-purpose party venue (this can double as a restaurant or cafe if you’re not using it for parties). Your location must be near a hotel or a resort so out-of-town or guests for destination weddings can comfortably come to the site easily. This place must be spacious and quaint enough to surpass a hotel’s in-house venue, so you have to offer more features like a spacious parking space, an outdoor stage, specialty toys and spectacles for kids etc.

Next, you must have employees who can reliably come whenever you have an event. It’s nice to think you can do everything at once but the reality is that you need the help of other people to keep things going.

Usually, this type of business consumes the whole family (‘family business’), and the results will only be obvious after a few years. Siblings may go out and do their own thing, but someone must stay to continue the biz.
