How to Throw a Party Like a Pro

How to Decorate a Venue for a Family Reunion

Categories: Party Venue

Home and garden venues are becoming a trend as summer is steadily rolling in. Blame it on the plethora of home improvement shows on television, but it’s a fact that everyone wants to celebrate this or that holiday, birthday, wedding, reunion and singles party in a garden location. Not that I’m complaining though.

Hello Summer! This is the season for parties… in fact, this second part of the year is bound to be awesome, business-wise, with the holidays coming.

Here’s a tip for all you party planners who want to create a theme party in your client’s backyard. Usually, family reunions and retirement parties are held in gardens, which means you have to pay extra attention to lighting, seating and patio decorations.

Food should be last priority when your client is inviting family and friends over. Most family parties are the pot luck type so you shouldn’t sweat it. You can focus your energy on making sure the venue is free of bugs, sharp rocks, twigs that could injure the running kids and quaint enough to satisfy the taste of the family members you are entertaining.

If you want to make changes to the home and garden, you must first inform the client that you’re going to be moving plants around. Some plants are sensitive to heat and cold so you need to make sure you don’t offend the client by killing her orchids while you’re working your magic on her garden.

The objective is to turn everyday living spaces (patios and backyards) into beautiful, inviting places to have parties. Even the smallest changes can make an big difference in a garden. For instance, adding lanterns instead of a spotlight can improve people’s moods. Lanterns and other lighting accessories can help relax the old folks and make them nostalgic enough to start re-telling stories of old.

If the garden is spacious, display, fresh-cut flowers on the tables and on the paths leading to the kitchen the gate or the front porch. Add more color to a space by using multi-colored table cloths and wrapping ribbons around chairs.

Big pillows on grass add warmth and coziness to any garden party. Don’t be content with just placing plastic chairs around the garden to encourage conversation. Use bean bags or even picnic blankets to make encourage the kids to frolic about.
