Event Planner Life: Why Get an Ultra Quaint Kitchen Rug?
As a party planner, you need to discover your personal style by browsing magazines, attending craft and trade shows, and looking for online decorating resources. But it doesn’t stop there. You must bring your personal style anywhere, and infuse every room in your house with it, including the kitchen.
Now that’s a tricky part of decorating. How can you put color in a kitchen that needs to be tiled, sanitized and kept spotless all the time? Basically, an ideal kitchen for a planner or a caterer is spartan bare and uncluttered so there’s more space to work on. Recently, I found a solution for that in a craft fair. In one kitchen showroom, they managed to make a kitchen come alive just by adding colorful kitchen rugs.
The good:
These can be the focal point of the room. In a pristine white kitchen, a bright colored rug stands out, even if it’s on the floor. It makes the place a lot more homey, and you know you want that kind of creative inspiration if you’re cooking for picky clients. Choose a motif that makes you smile, and a pattern that reminds you of a good memory, even if it’s just the apples you used to munch on when you were a kid.
The bad.
If you don’t manage your kitchen space well, you could trip on your beautiful rug. It isn’t the rug’s fault, but you can blame it if you don’t feel like admitting even to yourself that you’re a klutz.
More tips on choosing a rug for your kitchen
1. Choose an absorbent fabric. Let’s face it, it will get wet in the kitchen so you can’t use fabric that won’t be able to hold water. It’s not a cleaning cloth, but you at least want it to hold liquid for a few hours until you can clean up.
2. Do not get a huge area rug, just a small one that will complement your kitchen table.
