Everyone has a way of organizing their workspace, and most of the time, each person thinks his way is the best. Your organization skills are undoubtedly honed by now if you’re a party planner. Your world revolves around systems and streamlined processes you invented yourself. However, your organization skills will be put to the test when you’re moving house and taking all your party planning stuff (and all the clutter) with you.
Taking Everything With You
Most people have garage sales before a big move to get rid of stuff, but what if your whole business depends on the small stuff you collected over the years. For instance, your numerous party favor samples and your personalized glassware (which you show your customers whenever you suggest something for their dinner table during parties).
A party planner’s home office is never totally clutter-free, but there are several ways to plan for a big move without having to ‘get rid of’ anything. One of these ways is a pretty eccentric box labeling technique.
Box ‘em up and label all the boxes. When you put a tag on a box, be very specific. In fact, insert a small letter addressed to yourself inside the boxes while you’re sealing them. Put the letter inside the box or tape it just inside one of the flaps so that the people who will be handling your stuff (the cross country movers you hired to transport your boxes across the country) will not realize what a looney you are!
The letter must contain exactly what you’re thinking when you were packing the stuff inside that box. One of the reasons why things get chaotic during the move is the way we forget why we put several items together in one box. This is a way for you to self-remind.
