The Self Employment Mindset, Do You Have It?
It’s no secret that parents encourage their kids to go to college for their future, but the grey area that doesn’t get discussed is what kind of work-related future their kids are likely to have. Most parents deal with the job vs. business issues by setting an example. But kids are still likely to get confused because of several factors: risk and effort.
It seems easier to get in a job and get assured of a monthly compensation than to go out of your way and brainstorm for a business. Going through some job sites like Indianapolis Job Search will make the “employment” road more appealing, but then there’s always that notion that you can be freed from all your schedule worries, routines and compensation complaints if you have direct control of how you make a living…
Then, comes the idea to go freelance.
It’s pretty obvious which road I have taken, being a party organizer and all. Although some might argue that “if you work for your mom, then she’s your employer”, but the seeds of entrepreneurship are being sown even while you’re working for a family business.
So what does it take to have a “Self Employment Mindset”?
First you have to accept that your ideas and your will to embrace your ideas will spell the difference between success and failure.
Take for instance, the job of a freelance wedding photographer. Documentation of the event is one of the most important tasks in a party, particularly for any event that happens only once in a lifetime, like a wedding. Taking good pictures is not the only job of a wedding photographer. He must also apply his story telling skills to create the best visual backdrop to a perfect wedding. What does this mean to you? It means you have to continually feed your artistic side and continue learning about what makes a wedding truly magical. After all, any person can buy a digital camera and click to his heart’s content, but only a paltry few can create a compelling story out of a task that seems mundane.
The moment you doubt your ability to do the things you need to do to keep your business going, your will to be self employed will drop.
Never let the notion of “safety in employment” hinder you from obtaining your dreams as a freelance worker, particularly if you work in an industry that’s competitive… like party catering!
