What a Production Assistant Can Teach You About Party Planning
One of the best advice for party planning or event organizing are usually from the people who know how to deal with the panic of rush deadlines and the pressure of putting out a great show. I’m talking about the production assistants who are the most stressed people you will see running around when there’s a highly promoted show going on.
I learned to appreciate the skills of production assistants when I happened to sneak into the backstage of a beauty pageant. The experience really opened my eyes to what’s happening behind the scenes of a big show like a pageant. For the most part, production assistants are there coaching people on what to do, discussing the sequence of the program, and making sure all the backstage drama doesn’t spill over to the front.
Drama is the word for what happens behind the scenes, and all through the clutter, the heated discussions on fda approved diet pills and hairstyle mishaps, the mess of nerves that besiege contestants, and the many bystanders who are just there to ogle everything else (like, ahem, me).

Any PA will tell you that panicking is the worst way to deal with mishaps. There will always be a solution, and strangely enough, everyone else will follow what you say if you continue to stay calm amidst the chaos. Being in charge and composed all throughout, even if everybody seems stressed, should be easy as long as you have the party plans engraved in your mind.
